Things I’m Grateful For on Friday 30 May
Today’s list of things to be thankful for or appreciate:
- A good nights sleep.
- Hot coffee.
- Playing with Wenna. She has this joie-de-vivre that is amazing, and that I’ve only seen otherwise in young children. She can get really excited by a biscuit being thrown across the floor. I’d like to emulate that, I think.
- Finding another adult mealworm.
- I got paid today.
- I’ve saved all the money I need to save already, into various accounts, so what’s left over is my own to play with.
- Being paid back by £20.
- I’ve finally managed to top up my phone. 300 free texts (up to a month) and then the £10 credit on top, isn’t too bad a deal, I don’t think.
- Mom seems up for a trip to the garden centres. I’m only taking a small amount of money with me, so I can’t go mad and spend huge amounts on plants. This is a good thing.
- I’ve had the idea to put up some funny cards on the side of my white unit. The cards are black and white, with a rather inconspicuous picture, and a rather rude verse. One of the pictures is of a 1950’s woman, sitting up in a 1950’s bed, stretching. The caption underneath reads ‘”Blimey! I went out to celebrate my Birthday after work on Friday night and got totally bladdered, yet this morning, I don’t seem to have a hangover!” thought Jackie, not realising it was now Tuesday.’
I think they’ll look really nice on top of the white background. - The little things that make life better - cushions, carpet, combs. Net curtain. Mugs with handles on them.
- Nat’s veg box had some watercress in it last night, so I’m going to have a go at making some watercress soup.
- While walking up the garden, I spotted another few photographs I’d like to take. One of the birdbox, another of the strawberries (they’re starting to set fruit), and another of the asparagus fern. Thankfully, the asparagus that I have is male, and doesn’t seed itself everywhere.
- I get to play with the waterbutt’s later.
- Safe driving.
- Going round the garden centre was fun. They had a gorgeous display of maroon, burgundy and pink plants all round the entrance that was absolutely beautiful.
- Buying some beautiful plants.
- Seeing H in the village, who I haven’t seen for a good long time.
- Using hardly any fuel.
- A feeling of satisfaction, just from going out to the country for a bit.
- Cake and biscuits.
- Seeing pigeons on top of the shed, and a Blue Tit on the feeder.
- A from A Changing Life took the time to tell me that my comments weren’t working.
- Watching an adult mealworm leave the pupal cocoon.
- Cold milk.
- Dropping Dripping on toast.
- Potting the plants up.
- The irises in the front garden are looking really nice. I’d like to get some shots of them, but the light isn’t right.
- Playing with my new bubble blowing machine. It’s very high tech, being a hand held fan with 2 circular bubble hole thingies on top. I’ve been blowing bubbles with it all afternoon. Yes, I am in actuality a 5 yr old boy.
- Making some homemade soup - leek, watercress and pea. And it’s very nice. I love the fact that I’m able to do this chemistry, this recombining of molecules and such, and create something. And not just something, something edible, and tasty. That is a fantastic skill to have, I think.
- My ebay item sold, for the full amount, which is fantastic!
- When I stuck my hand into a tub of compost earlier, I only slightly cut the tip of my ring finger, and didn’t get tetanus. Even cutting the tip of my index finger would have made things rather more awkward, especially while typing.
- Smodging on Wenna.
Things I’ve laughed at today:
- The bubbles.
- Teasing everyone in sight with the bubbles.
Things I want to manifest:
- Getting some beetroot seeds planted.
- Planted tubs. MANIFESTED.
- Lots of photographs. MANIFESTED. I took some, anyway.
Things I’ve done for others:
- Took mom shopping.

one of my favourite things in the world to do is visiting a garden center in the uk… the plants, the bits and bobs, the wonderful cafes… spring, summer, fall… and the holiday items!!
here in the states, we have nothing as lovely as that.
thank goodness! i’d be broker than i am.

I know exactly what you mean! I used to work at a garden centre, back in the day (which is where I seduced the manager, and we had a relationship that lasted for 8 years), and I used to spend pretty much all my wages on stock. The garden looked fantastic, but I just couldn’t afford to eat.

The plants and garden center sound wonderful.
Have a good weekend, Solomon.

They were. The Centre is out in the country, and you have to drive down a pothole filled road to get to it. When you get there, there’s all manner of animals wandering about - horses, geese, chickens, the owners dog, a goat, the biggest pig I’ve ever seen, etc. One year there was a duck with some ducklings curled up in one of the barns. It’s like a rather open petting zoo. The plant displays were stunning too. The site is massive, and it’s chock full of flowers. I could spend a fortune round there.
