Things I’m Grateful For on Saturday 24 May
Today’s list of things to be thankful for or appreciate:
- A good night’s sleep.
- Getting up at 8:30, despite not going to bed until past 1AM. Must have been the three hours I gave myself yesterday. :midripe:
- Hot coffee.
- Caring for the mealworms. Well, I’ve opened the tub lid to change the air, and picked out a couple of dead ones, but that’s about it.
- Getting my own back on Dinky.
- I’m off work for 3 days.
- I have a couple of jobs to do today.
- Getting a post up on RandomBlatherings.
- I am alive to fight another day.
- Getting my finances in order.
- Emotional awareness.
- I have another shoot on the Aspidistra “Okame”.
- Playing with Wenna. The weather here is really sunny and windy today, so i spent some time sat up the garden, throwing the ball for the dog. She loves it.
- Cold milkshake.
- A tasty homemade hamburger, that I cooked myself.
- Clean sheets on the bed tonight. And a nice hot bath.
- Awareness of the fact that I’m having trouble feeling grateful because I’ve performed my old trick for stopping myself from being hurt, which is to say that, metaphorically speaking, I’ve pulled the door shut to the room where I keep my emotions. If I don’t feel them, they can’t hurt me.
- Reading some Firefly fanfic. I try to mete this out to myself, because the fun will go away if I do it too often.
- Getting some nice photographs.
I’ve managed to get a nice close up of the Ceanothus, that I’ve been trying to get for a while now.
- Yellow Broom.

- Wet Wenna. This was after playing with the hose pipe. I think she looks as though she’s plotting her revenge…

- The Ceanothus. I’d been trying to get a macro shot of it’s flower buds for a while.

- The strawberries are starting to set fruit.

- The purple broom. I bought this last year when it was absolutely plastered in flowers.

- The Physocarpus. Noted for it’s stunning yellow leaves.

- The Photinia is coming back, despite it’s rather drastic haircut last year.

- A pot of winter flowering Pansies on the wall.

- The infamous mealworms.

- One of the bearded Iris from the front garden. They’re really flowering well this year.

- A variegated Holly. Legend has it that variegated Holly should never be bought into the house, as the devil has tried to spoil it.

- A fly. normally I wouldn’t take a shot of something like this, but I realised it was a bluebottle, and I wanted to capture the iridescence they have. Beautiful. If it comes in the house, though, it’s going to get swatted.

- A dandelion flower. The tortoises love them.

- Choysia ternata “Sundance”. AKA Mexican Orange Blossom. Both the flowers and leaves smell.

- Cerastium, or “Snow In Summer”. The leaves are silvery grey, too, giving the whole plant a very “white” effect.

- The budgie. It seems to be getting more and more used to the camera.

- An Acer that we’ve had for years. It dies back a bit more every year, but it’s over 10 years old.

- Yellow Broom.
- I made it clear that I don’t want to go out with the family tomorrow.
- Watching a bit of Six Feet Under with Nat.
- Not engaging in unhealthy activities.
- More hot coffee.
- I’ve lifted about a dozen mealworm pupae out of the tub today. This is hopefully going to mean lots of breeding pairs.
- A nice hot bath.
- Having the idea to write an ebook.
- Working out a problem with another blog, that may well create another. Oh well.
There must be a way round it. Finding that way will be something to do tomorrow. - How close I am to my plants. Elle reminded me of this tonight.
Things I’ve laughed at today:
- Wenna’s antics.

Things I want to manifest:
- A fulfilling day off work. MANIFESTED.
Things I’ve done for others:
- Helped nat do some shopping.

Today I am grateful!
My husband just graduated from his on-line university and 2 1/2 years of working towards this degree.
We have a life now that includes seeing friends, going for long drives, more self-satisfaction … I love it!

It’s great that you have that life. And what’s even better, is that you feel good about that. It’s like a 2 for 1 coupon.
May 24th, 2008 at 5:02 pmWe have a very similar 10 year-old acer, and it’s dying back a little each year too. It’s the most beautiful colour so I’ll be very sorry to see it go. No doubt we’ll replace it.
Your ceanothus shot is magnificent!

Is the Acer in a sheltered spot? It tends to be the cold that kills them off. We get a lot of wind here, which doesn’t help them.
I’ve been trying to get a shot of the Ceanothus since it came into bud earlier on in the year. I figured out the other day that if I stick the zoom on my camera right out, and get in really close, it’ll usually take a decent macro shot.

You know, I’ve never been grateful for the proximity before. But you’re absolutely right! They are close, and that is something to be grateful for. Thank you.

I like your plants.
