Things I’m Grateful For on Monday 23 June
Today’s list of things to be grateful for or appreciate:
- Getting a good night’s sleep.
- I’m not in work until 1PM today.
- Maya Gold chocolate.
- Breakfast cereals with cold milk.
- Reading Taken Child in it’s entirety. Darkness Bright, here I come.
- Having a few minutes left before I have to go out to write this blog.
- I have plenty of change for the parking meter.
- Clean uniform.
- My reliable car.
- Nice sunny weather.
- Standing up for myself. For the first time in my life, I stood up to someone who threatened to hurt me.
I am so f*cking proud of myself for having done this. - Getting some great impetus to find another job.
- Dinky looking out for me.
- Cool clear thinking that led me to buying some Rescue Remedy in the middle of anger.
- Getting the afternoon off work.
- A tasty evening meal - pork chop, roast onions, roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, carrots, peas and broccoli.
- Safe driving.
- That I’m not the person I was a year ago.
- Coming across the question “what motivates you every day”?
- Hot fruit tea.
- I eventually found the envelopes in Tesco, at a very cheap price. I also have about a million stamps, for postage.
- Getting 10 spec letters prepared for posting tomorrow.
- Playing with Wenna.
- The encouragement I had from my commenter’s today.
- Having more money than I need.
- Really feeling as though I’m moving on with my life. I’ll have to start having a go at people more often.
- Oddly, feeling tired. I have been all afternoon, but at least I know I’ll get a good night’s sleep.
- Regarding #19, I was just watching a Youtube video of George Carlin, and it started with him on stage, with a lot of people clapping at him. I thought that that must be such an affirming thing - to have hundreds of people showing you that they think you’re wonderful. I wondered, at the time, if that was something that could motivate me. Of course, I also thought at that moment that I agreed with my boss in that I handled the situation badly.
- I’ve been paid back by another $2 on Kiva.org. I’m up to $441 now.
- I’ve been paid back in full by a borrower on Kiva, so I’ve reloaned the money to Rita Okarekru.
- Realising that everything that happens in life, good or bad, is just a “unit”. Every customer I serve at work is a unit, every cup of coffee I drink is a unit, every word I type on this blog is a unit. It’s how the unit’s add up that matters. This ties in with the thoughts I had on “value” a few days ago.
- The electric fan which is helping remove the stuffiness.
Things I’ve laughed at today:
- I found this hilarious video on the failblog. Don’t forget to read the comments!
- This kind-of loldog.
- This.
Things I want to manifest:
- A quick, pleasant, quiet day at work. HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Things I’ve done for others:
- Served a few customers.
- Made my position clear to my boss.
- Let someone out into traffic.

Most people who threaten others are not willing to be hurt themselves. Standing up for yourself shows them they could be hurt too, so they re-evaluate their position and move on to someone else.
Life is too short to take threats, harassment, or any kind of B.S. from others.

The evening meal sounds delicious.
I hope your week goes well. I wanted to ask you about the Entrecards. I see them on a lot of sites. Does it increase your traffic? Is it just one of those things where people come by but don’t really read your stuff? Just curious.Thanks.

The bounce rate (how many people view the ad and not the rest of the site) is pretty high, but one thing I’ve noticed is that I get an awful lot more Google traffic now. Part of Google’s ranking system is how many links there are from other people’s sites to yours. If you advertise on a lot of sites, then you get a lot of inward links, which increases your rank in Google.
In and of itself, Entrecard traffic isn’t worth much. People come by, drop the card, and go. Your page hits will go way up, but you probably wont get many more comments. However, like I said, it’s great for enhancing your Google rank. People searching for your site are “worth more” because they are looking for something specific you’re offering. If you have a shop, and 2 customers come in, the one who travelled there specifically to get a carton of milk is worth more than the one who was just walking past and decided to pop in because of the pretty sign outside.
I hope that makes sense.
I don’t bother dropping cards any more, and just use the credits I get from allowing people to advertise here to advertise on other blogs. It’s pretty passive, but even so, I’ve had a huge upsurge in people Googling in. About 6-7x as much, in fact.

Thank you. I’ve spent 26 years letting people walk all over me. I think it’s about time I started defending my right to exist for a change.

If you go yo Entrecard.com, and then click on Dashboard, you’ll see a list on the right hand side of people wanting to advertise. Just click approve or deny.
