Things I’m Grateful For on Tuesday 19 August
Today’s list of things to be grateful for or appreciate:
- Getting a good night’s sleep.
- Hot coffee to help me wake up.
- The new mix seems to be working OK. Really must look at that fregair, though.
- Having time to myself before work.
- I hung my uniform up yesterday, when I took it off, so it’s still uncreased.
- A friend has come through with some help. More on this later.
- I had a YouGov survey, that netted me 75p for a 10 minute rant about the government.
- Door hinges that don’t need oiling. Bit of an odd one this, but I’m thinking that there are so many things, every day, that just work. Toilets flush. Water comes from a tap/faucet. Kettles boil. Etc. I only tend to notice them when they don’t work. But there are myriad things that do their job every day, and make my life that little bit easier (cumulatively, a lot easier), that I don’t even acknowledge.
- My air purifier is blasting out a mix of essential oils.
- Stable healthy moods. Depression is not fun, but it is sometimes useful. It certainly helps me appreciate a smile from a customer, for example.
- Singing with Wenna last night. She sounds like a Wookie when she gets excited.
- I have more tasty, healthy food to take to work with me.
- Listening to Raul Malo (he’s the lead singer with The Mavericks) singing Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground.
- I have a paying job to go to. We have a guy at work, who is unemployed, working with us. He’s doing a full time job, for very little wages, because he’s claiming Jobseeker’s Benefit. We can’t pay him anything, because that would affect his benefit, so he’s working quite hard, for little reward.
- I seem to be slowly learning the next trick in the book: being grateful for things that at first glance, don’t appear to be something to be grateful for.
- A nice hot shower. I love being able to wash myself in hot water.
- Tasty breakfast cereals.
- Being able to prepare my own food.
- I got a ValuedOpinions survey, that netted me 75p for 10 minutes clicking.
- Safe driving. I successfully avoided an accident.
- Chatting to and laughing with L and Dinky.
- Free chocolate. I’m never going to lose weight working at that place.
- Chatting to my regulars.
- I served a few cute guys, one of whom pre-ordered a book.
- My colleagues have been praising the fact that I’ve got 3 pre-orders for books, when the target for the whole area (about 40 stores) is only 24 pre-orders.
- Tasty food to eat on my break.
- I got Nat a few OS maps that she can use for her walking.
- I get to see J’s mom tomorrow. It’s a good job I’ve got some money saved. We’re getting a takeaway, and having a good natter.
- Jogging trousers. So very comfortable.
- Tasty home made burgers for tea, with onions and relish.
- Mom made a very tart smoothie this morning, and it’s rather nice.
- Helping mom tidy up. It’s been a rather good laugh.
- Cold banana flavour milkshake.
- Being ready for bed nice and early. I have to be up at 6AM tomorrow.
- Having pzizz to help calm me down before bed.
- Having a little programme I wrote that will play a hypnosis tape and then shut down the PC. I find it very useful to nod off to sleep with, and it saves running the computer overnight.
Things I’ve laughed at today:
- This loldog. And this one. And this one too.
- Listening to Wenna waking dad up.
- This, this, this, this, this, this, this and this from Not Always Right. I had #3 myself once. A woman came in and wanted a book, but she didn’t know what it was called, who it was by, or what it was about. Sounds like a riveting read…
- This lolcat.
- I was sat at the till at work today, munching on a free bag of Revels, watching an older guy reading the books about sex, while trying not to make it obvious. I had to keep hiding my head behind the till monitor when he looked round.
- This lolcat. Me to a T.
- Mom, while I was helping her tidy up. We found 5 tubes of the same foot cream, which was worth about 20 minutes amusement.
Things I want to manifest:
- A quick, simple, pleasant day at work. MANIFESTED.
Things I’ve done for others:
- Served a lot of customers.
- Shared round some chocolates.
- Helped mom do some cleaning out.

Just had to take a moment to say I’m thankful for your blog. Especially today. Reading your list is exactly what I needed. Especially the reminder about the hot shower, coffee, and depression. Without days like today, I’m not sure I would appreciate the days full of joy

I had to smile at #8. I too am grateful all our plumbing is working today.

August 19th, 2008 at 3:04 pmIt is the little things which go unnoticed we seem to take for granted. But when these things stop working we surely notice the impact. My morning would not be the same if I did not have hot coffee, hot water, and an indoor flushing toilet.

Thank you. And you’re right. Without the darkness, it’s hard to see the light. It’s so easy to get stuck in a rut and just follow the routine. until something comes along, and pulls the rug out from under you, and then you’re craving the routine again. I just try to focus on filling up the glass as much as I can.

It’s an easy thing to forget, but imagine how stuck we’d be without it.

Absolutely. Plumbers over here can charge £50 just for visiting the home. That’s before they do any work. They know people will pay the charge rather than put up with having no hot water.
August 19th, 2008 at 8:22 pmWho wants to work where Sol works? Me! lol. Not only does he get lots of free chocolate - he also gets to munch on chocolate whilst he’s working!
Wishin’ Sol, and everyone who drops by, a super cool wednesday!

I think my boss has figured out it’s pointless to try to stop me eating chocolate on the till.
It’s wrecking my diet, though.
