Things I’m Grateful For on Sunday 17 August
Today’s list of things to be grateful for or appreciate:
- Getting a good night’s sleep.
- Getting up OK despite the early hour. It’s my own fault for having a nap yesterday afternoon. It always prevents me from getting to sleep early.
- Lying in bed last night, I created a job list, and found some more things to be grateful for.
- Eating a lot early on in the day yesterday pretty much prevented me from snacking. I ate too much at one meal, which it took my stomach ages to digest, so I felt full all day.
- Yesterday, I generally felt good. I am grateful for discovering something that can make me feel good, and for actually feeling good. I am grateful that I can be grateful. Keeping this gratitude blog has really had a positive impact on my life.
- Being homoiothermic. Now I’m two kinds of homo…
I was lying in bed last night, and as the bed was warming up, I realised that if I was cold blooded, I wouldn’t be able to warm the bed up myself. And that would be a disaster.
Finally, something new to be grateful for.
- Hot coffee. I’ve washed out the coffee maker, after giving it a vinegar rinse yesterday.
- Listening to Son Of A Preacher Man by Dusty Springfield. I heard this yesterday on the radio, and I’ve been humming it ever since. I seem to have a case of Earworm.
- Taking Nat to the station was quick and easy.
- Taking mom shopping was quick and easy. We were out of the shop by 11AM. This means i have the rest of the day to myself.
- We got lots of tasty items from Morrisons. I treated myself to some Innocent smoothies, as they were £1 off.
- Remembering the correct PIN for my card at the checkout.
- The tastiest breakfast I’ve had for a long time - some hot pork from a joint we got with the shopping, followed by a milk chocolate peanut cookie (these, with chocolate on), and some blackberry, raspberry and boysenberry smoothie.
- I’ve been paid back by another $9 on Kiva.org. I’m up to $535 now.
- Noticing that hard work today pays off tomorrow. If I try hard today to find lots of things to be grateful for, that will carry on over to tomorrow. It’ll be easier tomorrow to find as many things to be grateful for.
- Getting a great shot of a bumblebee on the buddleia while I was up the garden. As I was taking the shot, a honeybee came up, and I was going to get them both in the same shot, but it flew away. Still, how often do you see two species of bees together like that?
- Job 1 is done. I’ve updated the BFIT blog for yesterday.
- Job 2 is done. I’ve updated the desktop wallpaper to a photograph of a Hosta leaf with a raindrop on it.
- Discovering that I can apply an effect to a selected area in Irfanview. This is going to be so useful.
- Job 3 is done. I’ve fed and watered the houseplants. I noticed yesterday that one of the aspidistras is going slightly chloritic, so I’ve fed them today with a seaweed based feed.
- Job 4 is done. I’ve fetched out all the papers, odd socks and bits of fluff from under the bed.
- Job 5 is done. I’ve updated the plugin list. Though I am now doubting the safety of advertising a list of potential security holes. I think I’m going to password protect the list, and people can ask to see it.
- Job 6 is sort of done. I can’t find much info online, so I’m going to have to ask a professional.
- Cherry and cinnamon tea. Pleasant, but I don’t think I’ll buy it again.
- Job 7 is done. I’ve filled and checked all the cleaning supplies bottles, and we’re good for a good while yet. I’ve also watered down some Radox bath foam. I’m quite heavy handed with it, which is a waste, so I’ve added about 1/4 water to make it go a bit further.
- Mom is washing my dressing gown for me.
- Lovely sunny weather.
- Job 8 is done. All the blogs have had their security locked down, and I’ve checked to make sure that the backups will run properly. Hopefully they will. I’ll know soon, either way.
- A tasty meal.
- Jobs 9 and 10 are sorted. I can’t do them yet, which is sort of nice.
- A nice hot shower.
- Keeping safe while poking about in phpMyAdmin.
Even though I nearly dropped the entire database.
That would have been disastrous! - A nice drink of a different smoothie.
- Job 11 is done - I got some photographs off the camera.
- Wenna, wearing my orange tshirt. She wore it for a surprisingly long time.
- A rather good shot I got of a bee today.

- A close up of the white buddleia at the top of the garden.

- A lovely blue flowered Germander I have. The leaves are grey, and complement the blue flowers very nicely.

- An Ipomoea I bought from the garden centre. It has since died.

- A plaque we have on the wall outside. It seems to be true.

- Wenna, wearing my orange tshirt. She wore it for a surprisingly long time.
- I figured out what was wrong with the backups. The file permissions on the directory are too stringent. Problem solved nice and quickly.
- I’ve been awarded the Brillante Weblog award, by Yummy.
- I’ve managed to sort out a photograph of myself and Nat, that I’m going to printout for mom.
- Job 12 is no longer an important issue for me. It would be nice, but I don’t have money to spend on it, and so I’m not going to bother. It’s not even a want, it’s a distraction.
- Hot Teeccino and a muffin.
- Watching some of Coast.
- Finishing series 2 of Eureka.
- I had a surprise phone call from Rani.
- Job 13 is done.
Things I’ve laughed at today:
- This lolcat. It looks like someone has just said “vet’s” to it. And this one.
- This loldog. It really reminds me of Wenna. And this one.
- The guy in Morrisons who nearly knocked some apples onto the floor. He joked that he nearly ran out of the door right afterwards.
- This list sounds like things I mutter under my breath when dealing with customers.
- This and this from Not Always Right.
Things I want to manifest:
- Everything off my job list done. All 13 jobs. MANIFESTED.
Things I’ve done for others:
- Took Nat to the station.
- Took mom shopping.
- Ran up the garden in the rain to grab some washing before it got too wet.

Hi Sol - I wish i had your life! But i can’t have it, so today i am grateful for…being able to read about Sol’s life, lol.

Wishing never changed anything.
If you want things to change you have to make them change.
August 17th, 2008 at 6:00 pmHi Sol. Yeah, i know ‘wishing’ is pointless. As for me ‘making’ things change - it seems kinda impossible for me. I’m 27 years old but under-developed. I still feel 10 years old inside - i’m scared and anxious about most things, been hiding away indoors since i left school. I haven’t got the guts to change - I’m a wimp, lol. That’s why i like reading about other peoples lives, like yours for example - because you have lives! lol, you ‘progress’. I’m kinda stuck - just waiting to die, lol.
August 17th, 2008 at 6:22 pmI think you’re fab Sol - I adore your lists.
Rather be one of those odd fluffy socks you found under your bed today than me, lol.

I don’t mean to sound harsh, but have you even tried?
August 17th, 2008 at 6:27 pmI’ve tried seeing doctors/attending classes - didn’t work out. Tried medication, tried working, tried mixing with people - didn’t work out. I don’t seem to be able to ‘function’ out there - it all petrifies me so much! Feels much safer hiding away in my lil’ bedsit, lol. I think i’ll stop feeling sorry for myself now - go n’ write a long list of all the things i have to feel grateful for. I may feel miserable but i’m not exactly suffering am i, lol. Millions of people in this world are going through ‘real’ misery as i’m sat here typing this - some people will be feeling true mental n’ physical pain, living a life that is complete n’ utter torture. I’m safe n’ warm. Thanx for being harsh, lol. And i love the photo of Wenna - very cute!ol

Are you happy with this, though? I went through a phase of wanting to be like everyone else, and go out and socialise, etc, until I realised that I’m just not like that. I’m happy spending time alone. I enjoy my solitude. I was doing things differently because everyone else was expecting me to. If you’re happy with your life the way it is, then don’t try to change it.
Obviously, if you’re not happy, then that’s a different situation. But if you don’t actually want to change your life, don’t try to. You’ll just waste time and energy, and make yourself miserable trying to live up to an “ideal” that isn’t really all that great.
August 17th, 2008 at 9:44 pmHi Sol - Thankyou for writing, you’ve made me feel so much better. So comforting to know that you once felt the same way as i do. I’m currently going through a phase you have already been through - putting pressure on myself to be like alot of other people, doing what i think i ’should’ do, being what i think i ’should’ be - just to fit in/belong, to be so-called normal. But y’know what - i am content with living a quiet life. I’ve never had friends or a social life. And even if i was free of my fears/anxieties tomorrow - there is nothing i’d rather do than stay at home with my husband.
August 17th, 2008 at 11:25 pmWhy should i feel wrong and ashamed for wanting to live life the way i choose. Yeah - i think i need to stop thinking about trying to live a so-called ‘ideal’ life, and start accepting my life as it is, and just enjoy it.
Sol - you are a star! You are going to be at the top of my ‘things i feel grateful for’ list tomorrow. Can’t wait to read your Monday list. be happy Sol. By the way - you take amazing photographs, such a talent/skill! You could make money from selling such beautiful images.
I love the pictures. Good job on the bumblebee - I’ve got an Anise bush they love, but they never sit still long enough for me to get a picture!

It’s frustrating, isn’t it? I saw a hoverfly on a clematis flower yesterday, but it had gone by the time I got back to it with the camera.
August 18th, 2008 at 9:31 amThe bumblebee shot is superb! You should have seen me chasing butterflies all over the place the other day

I suppose there isn’t a Youtube video?
I’m really quite pleased with the shot of the bee. It’s the best I’ve ever taken of an insect.
