The “Things I’m Grateful For” April Contest - Now closed.
Welcome to the April TIGF Contest, which runs from 00:00AM GMT on April 1st 2008, until 11:59 GMT on April 30th 2008. The focus of the contest for April is commenting. The rules this time are slightly different, but I’ll try to keep them as simple as possible. I’ve set them up this way so even people with low traffic blogs stand a chance of winning.
- For every comment you make, you get 1 point.
- For everyone you refer who leaves a comment, you get 5 points.
- Every comment counts, up to 1 per day. Any extra than 1 per day will be discounted. For example, if you leave 40 comments on April 2nd, then nothing for the rest of the month, I’ll count that as 1 comment (and quite probably remove the other 39). Retroactively commenting is allowed - if you miss a few days, and then comment on them afterwards, that’s fine.
- If you refer someone to the site, and they leave a comment mentioning that you referred them, you get 5 points, and they get 1. Them mentioning that they were referred is important, because I can’t match up HTTP referrers to comments very easily.
- Previously made comments do not count towards your total - this contest is for comments made in April 2008 only.
- Comments can be anything - just to say “Hi” is acceptable, though obviously Id prefer something a little meatier than that.
- The rules/prizes may be changed at any point.
- The winner is the person with the most points at the end of April.
- My decision is final. Obvious spamming will get you disqualified. Etc.
Having read all that, I bet you’re wondering what you win, aren’t you? Well, seeing as this blog is about things that I’m grateful for, I figured I’d share some of those things with you. So, the prizes are as follows:
- A bamboo flannel. Totally unused, though it has been laundered ready for use, according to the manufacturers instructions.
- A copy of Life Wealth 101. 2nd hand, though a good readable copy.
- Coffee. You all know how much I love my mug of hot coffee, so I’m giving away a 100g bag of vanilla flavoured coffee beans.
- A decorative “cake soap” bar. I’ll try to get some pictures of this up soon. It’s a bar of soap, in the shape of a slice of cake. There’s a layer of what appear to be oats on the bottom, then the rest of the “cake”, with a layer of “cream” on top. All made out of soap.
- A Green & Black’s cereal bar.
Obviously, I can’t send you my bed, or Wenna, but I would if I could. ![]()
To enter, just leave a comment. The more days you comment, the higher your chance of winning. I have a plugin that will allow you to see how you’re doing - to see, look at the bottom of the left hand sidebar. I have to update it manually every 24 hours, so the counts might be a bit off. If you have any questions, just ask. Otherwise, I’ll see you in April.
Good luck!
Solomon.

April 11th, 2008 at 3:30 pm Quote this commentDid you get some traffic from it? That would have been cool.
April 11th, 2008 at 6:15 pm Quote this commentI don’t think so - my traffic levels, although low, usually don’t vary too much. I find that if I don’t go out and make comments everywhere, my levels drop. That said, I DO have several readers who seem to read me as a matter of course, which makes me feel good. My Haiku and the 100 Word Challenges have proven to be fairly popular - I find that I like writing, especially to a purpose.

April 13th, 2008 at 11:25 am Quote this commentNo, I haven’t. What is it? Of course, by the time you see and respond to this I will probably have researched it and found out. But, what the heck. I have to ask.

It’s a way of getting some advertising for your blog. Instead of paying money out, you drop your card on other peoples blogs, which earn you credit. I’ve seen a huge jump in the amount of traffic I get since I started using it.
April 14th, 2008 at 5:40 pm Quote this commentI’ve thought about it - but I find that the way I blog, and the way I feel about blogging, means the more traffic I have then the more time it’s going to take me to respond, moderate, etc. I know I don’t have the greatest number of readers, but I do have some who read me regularly, and that, I think, is good enough.

April 17th, 2008 at 10:34 am Quote this commentOptimally, one could blog and not have to moderate comments and follow links, etc. But one must be GOOD for that kind of readership and I’m not.
